Industry
Cosmetic
Company
Glow Recipe is a skincare company committed to charitable giving and sustainability. Their products are clean, vegan, and leaping bunny certified cruelty-free.
Products
Glow Recipe uses fruit extracts (avocado, blueberry, guava, papaya, plum, strawberry and watermelon) in all its products. Their products include cleansers, moisturizers, serums, sunscreen, masks, primers, and more.
Type of boxes
Today we will look at three different product boxes: a moisturizer, a cleansing balm, and a sleeping mask. All three are two pieces: meaning a box in a box. There is an outer box and a secondary printed sleeve inside it, the two are mounted on chip board. The moisturizer and cleansing balm also have a tray in the bottom of the box to hold the product securely. All three boxes have auto-lock bottoms.
Printing & Embellishments
Printing is four color process with just the right about of white space to text and images. Each product has an image of its fruit extract ingredient. The moisturizer and cleansing balm have full-color printed secondary sleeves. The secondary sleeves have images of the type of fruit in that product and some text promoting the product. The top of each box has the company name embossed on it. The main panel facing the consumer on the shelf has an embossed area that listed the company name, the name of the product in English and French, and a listing of some of the ingredients.
Paper
Glow Recipe uses a 24-point C1S cover stock. Most interesting, they print on the uncoated side of the paper which gives it a different texture and feel – a more premium and luxurious opening experience.
Sustainability
Glow Recipe takes their sustainability very seriously – they have a sustainability report on their website that details all their efforts. They are carbon neutral, they have reduced their paper packaging, removed unnecessary plastic components, and reduced air shipments. Further, 100% of their formulations are vegan and cruelty-free and they are Leaping Bunny Certified. Glow Recipe tries to source ingredients with a lower environmental impact when they are able – and they try and use as much of the fruit to minimize food waste. They detailed a specific product and how it may use up to 67% less carbon emission and 75% less waste compared to a typical product in the marketplace. Certain product tubes are made with up to 50% post-consumer recycled materials. All products are 100% recyclable curbside, their glass jars are made with a minimum of 20% post-consumer recycled materials and they only use FSC-certified paper. Glow Recipe has removed plastic spatulas from their products, their shipping boxes are 100% recyclable and made of 100% post-consumer waste. The bubbles are also 100% recyclable. They launched their first refillable product in 2021 and hope to have another in 2023.
Messaging
Each folding carton told why the consumer should use the product, some benefits of using the products as well as directions for use. The messaging was in English as well as French. Glow Recipe included the ingredients, cautions, and all the designations they follow, including Peg-free and their website address.
