Premium packaging is essential for your brand and that’s where folding cartons can help. You’ve probably seen many kinds of folding cartons in stores, but what exactly makes them special? There’s more to packaging than just being functional- it also needs to be appealing to your customer base.
Types of folding cartons
Different types of folding cartons offer different benefits, from opening methods to recommended weights for contents. Some cartons are better suited to a certain type of product, making choosing the right kind of packaging a very important task. Here are the six types of folding cartons, covering packaging for most beauty, electrical, food products, and more.
Straight tuck box
Straight tuck boxes have their closing tabs on the same side of the box. The top is also the same as the bottom, with two folding edges that tuck beneath a larger tab. The larger tab has its own folded edge that creates the closure. This is a great fit for small to medium-weight items, particularly cosmetics.
Reverse tuck box
Like the straight tuck box, this folding carton uses three tabs for full closure, however, the reverse tuck box has its opening and closing areas on different sides of the carton. They take the same amount of time to assemble and pack, but straight tuck boxes are more efficient in terms of paper use.
Sleeve packaging
Sleeve packaging is an easy way to add creative branding to your product. The sleeve is like a box with no bottom or top, and you slide it over a box. It is incredibly simple to assemble, gives more space for branding and the unboxing experience, and is a good solution for products of many shapes and weights.
Two-piece box
This is one of the simplest packaging solutions, but if designed properly can be one of the most luxurious. The two-piece box is made up of two halves: a base, and a lid, and can be customized to the desired depth, length, and width you need. For beauty products or accessories, inserts can be used to protect packaged items. This is also one of the folding cartons that feel most like a gift— perfect for promotional campaigns, gifting, or additional custom products.
Snap bottom box
This box is assembled in three steps which may seem like extra time, but in fact, it’s extra support. If you’re packaging heavier items, this is one of the folding cartons you should consider. The bottom tabs lock by pushing onto each other, giving a good amount of support where you need it.
Auto-lock bottom box
Without a doubt, auto-lock bottom boxes are the go-to for heavy items like drinks, candles, and large electronics. The bottom tabs settle into place during assembly without any extra effort, and the box opens with a simple tuck tab.
